PSEG Solar Source acquires Vermont Solar Farm
Energy company PSEG Solar Source has obtained a 3.6MW solar farm located in Burlington, Vermont, from juwi solar (JSI).
The plant, originally called the ERWR Whitcomb Farm Solar project, will now be named the PSEG Essex Solar Energy Center and will have a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Vermont Electric Power Producers (VEEP) as part of the Vermont Sustainably Priced Energy Enterprise Development (SPEED) program.
The facility will be located about 6.4 km northeast of Burlington and will increase PSEG’s total PV capacity to 110MW.
Michael Martin, president of juwi solar, said: “JSI is proud to build our first solar energy facility in Vermont”Given its location within the Whitcomb family property, which has continued to be a productive farming operation since its inception in 1867, this project exemplifies the opportunity to complement agricultural land use with renewable energy generation.”
Juwi provided engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for the plant and will operate the project for PSEG. Construction is slated to begin later this month and will be completed late in 2014. When finished, the plant will be comprised of around 12,000 PV panels.
The addition of the PSEG Essex Solar Energy Center gives PSEG Solar Source nine projects in eight states.
