American Solar, a leader in residential solar installations, has renewed its alliance with Shea Homes, which enables the builder to move forward with its Vista Montana, California community project and the solar panels that will be installed on those homes.

The company will install efficient Suntech Power solar modules that generate up to 245 watts of power. To streamline the process, Shea plans to use a new method of installation that features a low-profile inset, making the structures flush with the edges of the roof. Various solar packages will be available, including 2.34, 5.39 and 8.82 kilowatt systems, which will save homeowners an estimated $810, $1,273 and $2,083, respectively, every year.

"As one of the largest private homebuilders in the nation, Shea Homes continues to be an important partner for us," said Sean Seitz, President of American Solar. "We’re excited to continue offering solar electric systems to new Shea homebuyers."

According to the California Center for Sustainable Energy, a number of utilities now offer solar packages, with Pacific Gas & Electric leading the way, followed closely by Southern California Edison.
