Green Mountain Energy helps power New York park
Austin, Texas-based electricity provider Green Mountain Energy Company announced that it has pledged its support to a major solar power installation being planned for a new park along the Hudson River.
Working through the renewable electricity supplier's Green Mountain Energy Sun Club program, which lets customers add an additional $5 to their monthly bill to support new solar energy projects, the company plans to donate $50,000 to the Riverside Park Fund.
The fund plans to renovate an abandoned parking lot on the west side of Manhattan into a sustainably-designed park. Key to this effort is the addition of solar panels to provide renewable electricity to cover its limited energy needs.
"Green Mountain Energy Company is especially proud to donate these funds towards a solar array system to the Green Outlook project at Riverside Park," Paul Markovich, president of residential services at Green Mountain Energy Company, said in a statement.
Green Mountain Energy gained some notoriety as a renewable electricity provider recently, after supplying all the green energy necessary to power the Super Bowl, which took place in Indianapolis earlier this month.
